PORTAGE, MI — Watson’s plans to open its first home entertainment solutions store in Kalamazoo County late this month by reutilizing the former ABC Warehouse store space in Portage.
Watson’s will lease nearly 25,000 square feet of space at 6695 S. Westnedge Ave., according to NAI Wisinski of West Michigan, the commercial real estate company that brokered the deal.
Renovations to the former ABC Warehouse space are nearing completion and Watson’s expects to open on May 27.
“Kalamazoo was the right choice for Watson’s newest Michigan location because of the reputation of the southwest Michigan community and because of Watson’s existing client base,” franchise owner Andrew Hazenfield stated in a press release. “The highly visible location on Westnedge is convenient and will allow for easy access for our customers.”
Watson’s is a privately held chain of stores that markets itself as the nation’s largest home and recreational retailer. The Cincinnati, Ohio-based business sells pools and spas as well as items for indoor entertaining, such as home theater furniture, fireplaces, pub tables, home bars, pool tables, saunas and steam rooms; and items for outdoor entertaining, such as outdoor furniture, outdoor kitchens, firepits, umbrellas, grills and brick ovens.
With its opening here, the company expects to add at least 10 jobs.
“The Westnedge corridor is a terrific spot for Watson’s,” Kara Schroer, a Realtor with NAI Wisinski in Kalamazoo, said in the press release. “We were eager to show Watsons this spot as we believe it has the potential to be a great location for its first store in the region given its proximity to the heavily trafficked Westnedge corridor and retailers such as Home Depot and Target.”
Watson’s has 18 locations in the United States, including stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri. The nearest store is in Grand Rapids.
