The Library Center will be teaming with Star Wars Storm Troopers, Jedi Knights, comic book superheroes and sci-fi and fantasy literature favorites on Saturday. Add to that mix the scores of kids, teens and adult fans who relish in “cosplay” – dressing up in character – and you’ve got LibraryCon.
It’s our third annual LibraryCon, a free, family-friendly fandom blowout. It will take over the building from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. that day, so if you need a calmer space to work, your other nine library branches will welcome you!
Guest speakers and panelists from the comic book industry include writers and illustrators Javier Saltares, Cullen Bunn, Jeremy Haun, Shayne Silvers. We’ll have panels about comic book writing and illustrating, Geeky Storytime, Jedi Academy for kids and teens, fandom meetups, costume design tips and a separate Cosplay Fashion Show for kids, teens and adults. More than 50 vendors representing the comic book, cosplay and gamer industries will also have booths.
For details, visit thelibrary.org/librarycon, or pick up a brochure at any of the 10 branches.
The Ozarks Travelogue series continues at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Library Center auditorium when 417 Magazine Senior Editor Savannah Waszczuk shares tales of her backpacking hike along the 37-mile Buffalo River Trail in northwest Arkansas. She also offers tips for planning your own Arkansas adventure.
Yoga for Health
Library staffer and registered yoga teacher Kim Duquette continues her Yoga for Health series for adults at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Library Station Frisco Room. This week focuses on gentle chair yoga, with standing and sitting poses only.
