Back here at home next tonight to St. Louis where demonstrators are gathering in the streets after the acquittal of a police officer in the fatal shooting of a black men. Extra police put on duty tonight. Ross cuters and defense lawyers with different versions of what the surveillance video actually shows. Alex Perez from St. Louis tonight. Reporter: Tonight demonstrators taking to the streets of downtown St. Louis. Blocking intersections and trying to shut down the highway. The tense demonstrations following the acquittal of former officer Jason Stockley, charged with killing Anthony Smith. Moments after the verdict was read demonstrators took to the streets here, coming face to face with police officers. We feel like we’re the little dog in the corner being kicked and kicked and kicked. At some point we’re going to bite back. What do you want us to do? Reporter: The December 2011 incident, caught on surveillance camera. Officer Stockley and his partner, after suspecting a drug deal, confront Smith at this restaurant parking lot. Police dashcam obtained by the St. Louis dispatch shows Smith nearly running over the officers, and speeding off, until crashing into a telephone pole. That dashcam capturing the officers trying to ram Smith. Hit him right now. Reporter: And Stockley can be heard in the video saying — . Stockley shooting Smith five times. Later testifying he saw Smith with a gun. A firearm was recovered, but prosecutors argued Stockley planted that weapon. Video after the shooting shows Stockley digging in to a bag in the backseat of his cruiser. After the not guilty verdict Smith’s family in disbelief. They were shocked. It was beyond speechless. I am confident that we presented sufficient evidence that beyond a reasonable doubt that Jason Stockley was guilty of murder in the first degree.
