MATTOON — The newly constructed Sarah Bush Lincoln Walk-In Clinic building along Dettro Drive is set to open Monday morning after the clinic relocates from its current storefront location in the nearby Mattoon Marketplace.
Wendy Will, supervisor of the Sarah Bush Lincoln walk-in clinics, said to ensure that the clinic’s regularly scheduled services are not interrupted, the move Sunday afternoon has been timed to take place outside of the operating hours there.
“Our operations will not stop,” Will said.
The clinic is open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, hours that will be maintained at the new 200 Dettro Drive location, just south of the current clinic site.
Sarah Bush Lincoln reported in a press release that the new 5,000-square-foot facility doubles the size of the older clinic and will better accommodate the volume of people who seek medical care in this setting.
Will said the Mattoon walk-in clinic served more than 18,000 patients last year and is on track to serve even more this year. She added that this clinic routinely serves more than 100 patients per day during cold and flu season.
Patient volume at peak times occasionally has caused the 13-seat reception area at the old location to overflow with patients waiting to be seen by medical staff, Will said.
“We have had patients who will actually sit and wait in their car for us,” Will said. She added that the new reception area will have 30 seats for patients. The building also has a covered front entrance and patient drop-off area.
Beyond the reception area, Will said the new location will offer additional exam rooms plus a room dedicated to assessing the conditions of patients before they meet with health care providers. The clinic will continue to offer a laboratory and X-ray machine.
