PEARL RIVER, NY — A casino-racetrack in the Hudson Valley — and a second casino being built — means job opportunities.
Empire Resorts Incorporated, the owners of Resort World Catskills, knows that a casino needs dealers — about 600 — and, to that end, has scheduled information meetings for individuals interested in learning the art of being a dealer. If you are interested in other jobs, there’s Empire Resorts’ Monticello casino and racetrack.
Current openings there include outside laborer, general cashier, bartender, accountant, restaurant server and part-time security officers.
You can check for job openings on its website and can download an application. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
Look for or post local opportunities in the Jobs section on Pearl River Patch.
As for the new one building in Catskill:
One free Casino Dealer School will open in Monticello Aug. 21. Two other dealer schools are set to open in Orange and Ulster counties, and there are information sessions in the following locations:
When: 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 14
Where: Orange County Emergency Services Center, 22 Wells Farm Road, Goshen
When: 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 6
Where: Ellenville High School Auditorium, 28 Maple Ave., Ellenville
If you attend one of the sessions, you will be provided updates on the casino project and find out about table game dealing as a career, the training required to become a dealer and how to enroll in the free Casino Dealer School openings, including the one in Monticello.
Once training is successfully completed, students will have to interview and audition for table game dealer positions. Once they have an offer of employment and acquire a New York State gaming license, they will be formally employed by February 2018.
Resort World Catskills is scheduled to open in March 2018.
